The Face of Swine Flu

Well, she's positive. That's right, our own little Swine Flu infected girl. Poor thing, she woke up crying with a fever and terrible headache. After a few hours she told me that her spine felt like it was going to explode (I'm guessing body aches). Then she had to endure the Swine Flu test where the respiratory therapist "sucked out part of her brain!"

But, I think Colby may be suffering more than that! He is mortified that someone he is related to has Swine Flu. After crying for an hour he asked for antibacterial soap and face masks. Today I was holding my sick baby and she kept breathing on me and kissing my cheek. I finally had to say, "Cate, you know we love you, but..." At which point Colby broke in, "You're going to give all of us Swine Flu and you could very well kill one of us!" I don't know why, but for some reason all of my children are dramatic and have a tendency toward over-reaction.

So, if you don't see us for awhile you know why!

P.S. I'm driving my kids crazy with my Swine Flu song. I can't help it, whenever I say "Swine" I think of Charlotte's web, you know the song, "Fine Swine, wish he were mine. Zuckermans famous Pig." Here's my version: "Fine Swine, wish it weren't mine. The H1N1 flu....." I have nothing to say in my own defense. That's just how my brain thinks!

Caitlin...Grandma and Grandpa are sorry to hear that you are ill. I hope that you are feeling better soon. I guess they never should have called it swine flu...the pigs probably don't even get it. You'll have to let us know what you are doing while you're recuperating. I sure hope Colby and Carter, and Mom and Dad don't get it so they can take good care of you. Love you lots, G & G Brown

Drama, Drama, Drama. Sorry you have the swine flu Caitlin. I'm with Colby though. I would get those masks and the hand sanitizer. As for the song...I hope when you sing it you do it in your high pitched opera voice. It just wouldn't be a song from Jamie without that!

Julie- must you share all my embarassing traits? By the way, please tell me that you aren't calling me one of those high-maintenance, drama people! I mean its not like I can trade my kids for a different model :)

I think we've decided to skip trying to get the vaccines tomorrow. I don't know how I feel about being one of the first ones to get it. I also hate crowds and lines. I stopped by Walgreens and picked up a few bottles of hand sanitizer and some Clorox wipes, so we should be good right?? I hope Caitlin feels better soon. AHHH Jamie--I can't get your song out of my head now!!

Oh no!!

I'm sorry to hear that Caitlin is sick. Feel better soon!

For health care workers we all had to get the vaccine so hopefully that prevents me from contracting the virus, but we have seen quite a few cases of the H1N1 in Gunnison too.

Good luck and feel better soon Catie!

Dude, that blows. So sorry she's sick. We have SF all over the place here now. The vaccine is not available here yet, but I don't think we're going to do it anyway. Yikes. Take care!!!
