A Letter

Dear Children,

I know yesterday was a hard day and I realize most of that was my fault. I'm sorry that I expect so much from you guys. I was frustrated by the bickering amongst you and irritated by your lack of responsibility. As I watched you guys sleeping last night (finally) I was remorseful that I hadn't been strong enough to change the attitude of our day. Rather than looking for ways to bring joy, I added to the chaos. I expect too much from you all, it's one of my faults. I forget that you are young and that your lives are turned up-side-down right now. I'm really sorry that I got mad about your dislike of dinner because I thought it tasted like crap, too! I won't buy anymore of those frozen dinners.

I hope that each of you will be able to remember the good times that we are having. Wasn't it great that our neighbor stopped to show you the endangered Leatherback Turtle hatchlings? Not many children have the chance to experience something like that. We are so fortunate to be staying right on the ocean and we have a state park only two miles away. I'm so glad we were able to visit there yesterday and we'll go back, I'm sure. My absolute favorite thing to do is spend time with my inquisitive kids as we experience new things together. I love to watch your sweet faces as you swim in the ocean and to see your eyes light up when you learn something new.

I am blessed to be the mother of kind, considerate children. All of our new neighbors have been so impressed with your manners and how you all watch out for each other. Colby and Caitlin, it is a tender moment each time I am able to see you interact with Carter. When he fell today, you were both sick with worry. I always notice your cringed faces when you hear Carter crying during pin care as you hurry over to ask him if he wants to squeeze your hand. There is nothing more important than the love that we share as a family and that love is what will help us through difficult times!

I love you all more than I can ever express.

Hi Jamie, just catching up on your blog. So glad things are going so well with Carter. Your letter made me cry! I have been frustrated with my kids all morning and it really hit home for me. Danny will be working out of town all summer and today the stress of being alone and trying to take care of "bored" kids got the best of me. Somehow I always seem to read your blog at just the right time, thanks!

We're thinking of you and miss you and hope things continue to go well!!
