The Reason for the Season

Yesterday I got a phone call that has weighed heavy on my mind ever since. It was from the mom of a child I worked with a couple of years ago. She called to let me know that her son had passed away the previous evening. Many of the children that I work with are medically fragile, and this isn't the first time that one of them has returned home to Heavenly Father. But, my heart hurts for this family, particularly at this time of year.

As I've continued to bustle around in my holiday preparations, my thoughts keep coming back to this family. My tears have been near the surface as I've run last minute errands. I look around at the shoppers around me, hurrying on their way, and I think, "Do you know that right now there is a mom who's heart is broken into a million tiny pieces?"

On Thursday, the day before Christmas, I will attend the funeral for a six year old little boy who leaves behind a family who loves him more than words can tell. And so, my thoughts and prayers are with this special little boy's family, especially his mom who has lovingly cared for this sweet boy... her sweet boy.

I hope that sharing this story will do for you what it did for me, it reminded me to stop for a minute and really ponder upon the Reason for the Season. I am grateful for our Savior and for the knowledge that families are forever and tonight I will hold my children a little closer and hug them a little tighter.

So sad to hear. I read similar sad story on another friends blog a few weeks ago--a friend of hers had to deliver her baby boy knowing that he had passed away. The cord had wrapped around his neck and he died in the womb. Really makes you think about what is most important in life. I too will hold my children a little closer tonight.

What a difficult thing to be faced with during a time that is normally celebrated as such a joyous season.

I've often thought of those people who lose loved ones so close to a holiday, especially Christmas. It would be so hard, and yet with the right perspective of this season, the meaning of hope would truly come to light. Remembering that because He came to this world and suffered our sins, through Him and of Him, we can return to the Father and live with those we love who dwell with Him there.

I am certain that she is receiving a great deal of peace from the Holy comforter. My prayers will surely be with this grieving family.

Thanks for sharing~
